12 men arrested for illicit sale of marine gas oil

SINGAPORE - Police Coast Guard have arrested 12 foreign men last Monday (Jan 26) for their involvement in the illicit sale of six metric tonnes of marine gas oil valued at about $4,000.

The suspects are aged between 19 and 62.

Police said preliminary investigations showed that seven of the crew members from a registered tugboat Tenaga Maju had sold marine gas oil to five crew members of foreign registered tugboat TB Nerine.

The offence is believed to have taken place last Friday (Jan 23) at the sea, off Pandan River.

Tugboat TB Nerine and cash amounting to $2,760 were seized for investigations.

The 12 men will be charged in court on Thursday for the offence of abetment to commit criminal breach of trust by servant. If convicted, the men face up to 15 years in jail and a fine.
