18-year-old in trouble for lying about robbery

SINGAPORE - An 18-year-old male has found himself in trouble with the law after making a police report that he was assaulted and robbed.

Police said that the teenager is now being investigated for allegedly making a false police report.

On August 31, the man reported that 2 unknown men assaulted and robbed him of his mobile phone and EZlink card in Jurong East.

In the course of investigations, police detected many discrepancies in the information provided by the man.

He eventually admitted that he had lodged a false report.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 1 year, fined $5,000, or both.
