KOTA KINABALU - A mother found her two children brutally slashed to death in their home in Sabah's eastern Lahad Datu district.
Asmidah Ardi, 16, and Azuan Ardi, 11, were found sprawled in a pool of blood with deep cuts on their heads when their mother returned from work at a plantation at about 8am on Monday.
Asmidah died on the way to hospital while her brother died on the spot. Their two other siblings were not harmed.
It is believed that the two victims were slashed when all four of them were still sleeping after their mother went to work at about 5.30am.
Lahad Datu district police chief Asst Comm Hamzah Ahmad said they were looking for a neighbour, a 23-year-old oil palm harvester, who was last seen near the house holding a machete.
"We are also searching for the suspect's wife who has also gone missing.
"We think they have gone into hiding," he said, adding that the couple may have vital information regarding the murders.
All the victims and suspects were Indonesians, he said.
