2 drivers arrested for rash driving

Two men aged 28 and 39 were arrested by the traffic police for rash driving that resulted in an accident, the police said in a statement on Friday.

Both men sustained injuries from the accident that involved a car and a taxi along the Central Expressway (CTE) at about 4.51pm on March 31.

Preliminary investigations revealed that prior to the accident, the two cars driven by the two men travelled in a reckless manner and at excessive speeds along CTE towards AYE.

One of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and collided into the taxi.

The traffic police also established the identity of the other car driver and subsequently arrested the two suspects on Thursday.

Their driving licenses were immediately suspended.

Police said that investigations are ongoing.

If convicted of rash driving, the suspects face jail terms of up to one year, or fines of up to $5,000, or both.
