20 nabbed in 14-hour blitz on crime

SINGAPORE - In a 14-hour blitz against crime, drugs and other offences on Tuesday, 20 people were arrested, police said yesterday.

The operation was done at public-housing estates in Sembawang, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Serangoon.

During the operation, a male suspect was arrested for buying illegal 4D near Buangkok Crescent. A mobile phone containing entries related to illegal public lottery was seized. Nineteen other people were arrested for drug-related offences.

Investigations are ongoing.

The penalty for buying illegal lottery is a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.

The initiative was a jointly led enforcement operation by the Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) Supervision F Division. It involved officers from other police and CNB units as well.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San, Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, said the police "will continue to work closely with our enforcement counterparts to eradicate criminal activities and keep our streets safe".
