SINGAPORE - More than 60 people from 20 needy families here will receive free dinners for one year, thanks to donations from the public and staff at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
The two hospitals managed to raise more than $56,000 through their Tingkat: Gift of Warmth donation drive, said Mount Elizabeth on Friday.
Besides providing meals for the beneficiaries, a portion of the funds will also be used to purchase home medical equipment like blood glucose monitoring kits and blood pressure monitors, which would benefit other needy residents under the hospitals' care.
The initative started during the Christmas season last year.
CEO of Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital Dr Kelvin Loh said that their doctors and staff found the Tingkat project "particularly meaningful".
"Most other Christmas charity drives lasts only for a season, but this project impacts the needy and provides for their most basic needs for an entire year," said Dr Loh, who added that they hope to make the Tingkat project - an initiative by Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Lianhe Zaobao - an annual event.
