21-year-old man arrested for snatch theft

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his alleged involvement in several cases of snatch theft reported in Woodlands public housing estate.

Between mid-May to mid-October 2014, there have been several reports of a man fitting the description of the suspect snatching mobile phones from the possession of their owners.

Police officers conducted extensive investigative probes and ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect. He was subsequently arrested in the vicinity of Woodlands Dr 60 at about 1.20am today.

The suspect will be charged in Court tomorrow for Using Criminal Force to commit Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If found guilty, he can be imprisoned for up to seven years and will also be liable to caning.
