27-year-old man arrested for extortion

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 27-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of extortion cases.

On Jun 2, a 25-year-old victim lodged a police report informing that the suspect, whom she befriended in 2014, demanded money in exchange for not posting compromising videos of her online.

Out of fear, the victim transferred $14,000 to several bank accounts provided by the suspect over a period of nine months.

The police arrested the suspect on Jun 3 at about 10.30pm.

If convicted, the man will face a jail term between two and 10 years and caning.
