29 nabbed in 17-hour raid of entertainment outlets & HDB estates

SINGAPORE - 29 people were arrested following a 17-hour joint enforcement operation that raided entertainment outlets and public housing estates in Sembawang, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Punggol and Sengkang.

Involving officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Criminal Investigation Department, the operation was conducted from 9am on Oct 14, 2014.

The suspects were arrested for various offences. 25 were nabbed due to drug-related offences, two for offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act and Betting Act, and two for offences under the Societies Act.

In addition, one public entertainment outlet was found to have breached the Public Entertainment and Liquor Licensing Conditions, while fire safety violation was detected at another outlet.

Drugs seized in the operation included 5 packets of "Ice" weighing approximately 25g in total and 7 Ecstasy pills. In addition, 2 handphones used in the commission of the betting offences were also seized.

Investigations against the suspects arrested are ongoing.
