3 arrested for suspected involvement in loansharking activities

SINGAPORE - The police arrested three men aged between 35 and 54 on Friday for their suspected involvement in three separate cases of loansharking activities.

The first suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Segar Road at around 11.30am. The 37-year-old is suspected of using his previous address to obtain illegal loans from loansharks, causing the current occupant of his old flat to become a victim of loanshark harassment when the suspect defaulted on his payments.

The second suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Dickson Road for allegedly collecting Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards on behalf of loanshark syndicates.

The police also seized a mobile phone from the 54-year-old who is believed to be a debtor-turned-runner.

The third suspect, who is also believed to be a debtor-turned-runner, was arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 3.

Eight ATM cards, a mobile phone, a prepaid mobile SIM card and cash amounting to $450 were seized from the suspect as case evidence.
