3 men arrested for theft at shopping mall

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested three men, aged between 23 and 27, for their suspected involvement in a series of shop theft cases at Westgate shopping mall along Gateway Drive.

According to a police statement, police received two reports on May 18 about the thefts which occurred on May 16, 2015.

With the aid of CCTV footage retrieved, officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the three suspects and arrested them on June 4. Police recovered several wallets which are believed to be stolen by the three suspects. The total value of the items recovered is $256.

The suspects will be charged in Court on June 6 for the offence of Shop Theft with Common Intention, which is punishable under Section 380 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years' imprisonment, or fine, or both.
