3 serial loanshark harassers arrested

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested three suspects aged between 16 and 18 for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

On Dec 9, the police received a call regarding a case of loanshark harassment that had occurred in the vicinity of Yishun Street 22.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted a search in the vicinity and spotted three suspects walking suspiciously along Yishun Ring Road.

The suspects were searched and found to be carrying loanshark paraphernalia such as paint, markers and addresses of debtors.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to have committed multiple cases of loanshark harassments in the vicinities of Yishun Street 22 and Yishun Avenue 6 by splashing paint on debtors' units and defacing walls with loanshark-related graffiti.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment face will be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, imprisoned for up to five years and caned a maximum of six strokes.
