30-year-old man arrested for molesting woman in lift

SINGAPORE - A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the police on Aug 11 for molesting a 46 year-old woman.

On July 29, the victim was in the lift of a Choa Chu Kang Central residential block when the man molested her.

A police report was made and the culprit was later arrested in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang Central.

The suspect will be charged in court on Aug 13 and may, upon conviction, be jailed for a term of not less than three years and not more than 10 years and with caning.

Police would like to remind members of public to adopt the following crime prevention tips:

i. Avoid taking the lift with a stranger. Let the stranger take the lift and wait for the next one;

ii. If alone in the lift, stand near to the lift buttons. Press the 'DOOR OPEN' button and exit if a stranger rushes in as the door is closing.

iii. When coming home late at night, ask a family member to wait at the bus stop, carpark, or lift landing to escort you home.
