ALOR SETAR - Police raided a homestay lodging in Langgar here and found a mobile laboratory producing 28.43kg heroin with a street value of RM1 million (S$366,472).
Kedah Police Chief Senior Deputy Commissioner Police (SDCP) Datuk Zamri Yahya said two men and a woman were arrested during the Saturday raid.
"All three had checked in for the homestay on Friday. Police have been closely monitoring their activities since April," he said.
"This is a mobile drug processing group believed to have been active for sometime. They will not put up long at one place."
He added that based on intelligence gathered, the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, together with the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) and the Kedah Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, launched three raids and six inspections around Kedah and Penang from 1.45am to 8.15am on Saturday.
"The raids were carried out in Langgar, Yan, Bedong and Sungai Petani in Kedah and Datuk Keramat in Penang," he added.
"In Yan and Datuk Keramat, two other men were arrested."
Police also seized eight cars valued at about RM531,000 which were used by the suspects and RM3,800 cash under the Forfeiture of Property Act (FOP).
"Preliminary investigation showed that all five suspects, aged between 28 and 50, were not linked to any syndicate and had committed the crime together.
"So far, there is no indication of other suspects still at large.
"All the suspects have been remanded for seven days till June 5 to facilitate investigation under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952," he said, adding that they were not the owners of the homestay dwelling.
