SINGAPORE - 454 public transport staff and drivers were recognised for outstanding service at the Transport Gold award ceremony on Friday at the School of the Arts.

In his speech, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew acknowledged that "frontline work in public transportation is by no means easy".

At the event, three "Kindness Champions" who have gone above and beyond in efforts to serve commuters were also recognised.

According The Straits Times, Madam Mas Siti, 42, helped a first-time visitor buy the Singapore Tourist Pass, making up the difference out of her own pocket. Cabby Mr Lim, 62, directed motorists away from a handcyclist in difficulty and detoured to return a passenger her belongings, and Mr V Ramjee, 44, has won a loyal following among his passengers with his enthusiastic attitude.
