5 durian delivery services you can count on when the craving hits

Door-to-door durian delivery services are gaining in popularity due to the convenience they afford to consumers - not all of whom own cars in order to transport their purchases to eat in the comfort of their homes.

Durian lovers also no longer need to be at the mercy of door-to-door durian sellers who sometimes resort to hard-sell tactics to hawk their wares.

Such unscrupulous durian sellers give a bad name to the durian delivery business, affecting other merchants who are providing similar services.

In case you're thinking of getting durian delivery in the near future, here are five durian merchants whose delivery services you can trust.

1. Jojo Durian

Started in 2015 by creative director Mr Alan Wong and two of his friends, Jojo Durian only operates during the durian season from May to August, and is run entirely online with no physical outlet. Jojo Durian's fruits are supplied by an unnamed shop in Sims Avenue, and are grown in Malaysia and Thailand.

With three varieties of durians on offer, starting from $38.90 for the Red Prawn set, Jojo Durian ensures the durians remain fresh by packing them only on the day of delivery. Each order also comes with coconut water and gloves.

There is a minimum order of two sets of durians per delivery, and a flat-rate delivery fee of $10. While orders can be made on any day of the week, deliveries only take place on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 to 10pm.

Orders can be placed on Jojo Durian's website.

Popular durian stall Lele Durian at Ghim Moh Market has begun selling its durians online. Mr Raymond Ng, who helps his father with the business, said that online sales are limited to 20 per cent of their stock, while the rest are kept for regular customers who visit the physical stall.

With 4.8-star rating on Facebook, out of a maximum of 5, Lele Durian's Facebook page is full of praise both for its customer service as well as the quality of its durians. The page is also kept regularly updated with prices of the durians.

Orders can be placed by calling or Whatsapp at 9694 8584.

Durian Garden's founder Melvin Chua was craving for durians one day but had to go to a durian stall to fulfil his cravings. Sorely disappointed by the quality of the durians he had, he decided to start his own durian delivery business, catering to smaller orders.

He now manages suppliers in Singapore and Malaysia, according to Durian Garden's website. Durian Garden offers a one-to-one exchange if customers are not satisfied, and posts from customers on Durian Garden's Facebook page rave over the quality of the durians and the level of customer service provided.

There is a flat-rate delivery fee of $15, which is waived for orders above $120.
