SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected to be involved in a case of theft of lorry along Kampong Ampat.
Police received a report of theft on Aug 15 at about 10.40 am, according to a police statement. That afternoon, officers spotted the stolen lorry travelling along Lor 1 Toa Payoh. As they tried to engage the suspect to stop the vehicle, the man suddenly reversed the lorry causing it to collide into an oncoming vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and established the identity of the suspect. On Aug 26 at about 1.50 pm, the 51-year-old suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Lor 1 Toa Payoh.
The suspect will be charged in State Court No. 26 on Aug 28 for the offence of Theft of vehicle, under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years.
