64-year-old man arrested for suspected armed robbery

SINGAPORE - A 64-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery along Cantonment Close.

Police said in a statement today that they received a report on May 1 at about 5.24pm that a man had demanded money and a mobile phone from a woman.

The woman handed over her mobile to him who fled the scene.

Officers from the Central Division followed up on the case and managed to trace and arrest the man within two hours from the time of the report.

The stolen mobile phone was also recovered.

If convicted, the man faces a jail term which not less than three years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.
