7,000 people attend third edition of NTUC's family organised picnic
7,000 turn up for U Picnic 2014, Singapore's only mass picnic event.

SINGAPORE - Back for a third year running, the 2014 edition of the NTUC U Family-organised U Picnic event gathered a host of families at West Coast Park for an evening of enjoyment, entertainment and bonding.

Organised by U Family with NTUC FairPrice and FairPrice Foundation, the event saw Mr Lim Swee Say, Secretary-General (SG) of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) take the opportunity to spend time with some of the families, captured some personal photo moments and tried his hand in a LED water drums performance.

As Singapore's largest annual mass family picnic, U Picnic provided the family-filled crowd with multiple stage activities and performances to the theme of 'Food. Fun. Experience'.

Attending families received a basket upon registration which consisted of food items by NTUC FairPrice, recipe cards, picnic mats and more.

Ms Toh Hwee Tin, Director of NTUC U Family, said, "This is the third annual instalment of U Picnic, and we continue to have a growing response year-on-year. Every year, we tap on this platform to celebrate Children's Day. Thus, it is especially encouraging to see so many parents celebrating the occasion with their children even though it is in the midst of school examination. This shows the love and support that parents are willing to provide, so that their children enjoy a good balance between school work and play. U Picnic continues to serve as an accessible and affordable activity for families as we believe that family activities are essential building blocks for a family's identity, sense of belonging and cultivating positive values - and we must not neglect the constant need to always bond as a family."

U Family, an NTUC initiative, advocates the cultivation of close-knit families by championing work-life harmony. U Family also organises family bonding events, networking opportunities for like-minded parents as well as platforms to contribute and advocate pro-family initiatives.
