8-month-old baby dies from fall at home

An eight-month-old baby boy died last Friday night, after falling in his home at Blk 83 Pasir Ris Grove.

He was unconscious when paramedics arrived, and was then sent to Changi General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8.50pm.

It is not clear whether he fell from a cot or a pram in the bedroom, and police investigations are ongoing.

One resident said she saw a maid taking the baby and his five-year-old brother downstairs to play at around 5pm, Chinese evening paper Shin Min Daily News reported.

While the older son continued playing downstairs, the maid returned home with the baby, leaving the baby alone in a bedroom while she went to cook dinner.

It was only after cooking dinner that she discovered the baby had fallen from the pram, with his head facing the ground. His lips were purple.

Another Chinese paper, Lianhe Wanbao, said the baby fell from his cot.

Shin Min said the maid carried the baby in her arms while shouting for help from the neighbours.

The maid also called the baby's mother, who thought he was only injured.

The baby's parents were at the morgue yesterday morning, but both declined to be interviewed
