ALOR SETAR - Three men abducted a businessman and robbed him of RM30,000 (S$11,000), which he had withdrawn from a bank.
The robbers were believed to have followed the victim, in his 60s, who was driving alone from a bank in Gurun on Thursday,
The men then intercepted his Toyota Camry at the Sungai Petani stretch of the North-South Expressway, got into the car and drove away with the terrified victim inside.
They drove to Kepala Batas in north Seberang Prai before the businessman was pushed out of the car.
Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya said the suspects fled with the victim's car in the 11am incident.
He said the robbers were armed with sharp weapons, but the victim was not harmed.
Voluntary crime watch and police patrol cars in the area have been alerted about the case.
ACP Mohd Nashir said the businessman's car was found abandoned at an industrial area near Kepala Batas at about 1am yesterday by a Sungai Petani MCA Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) team member, who spotted the vehicle and alerted the police.
The car was towed back to police headquarters here.
ACP Mohd Nashir said police have received a report about the incident and are investigating the case under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
He added that no suspects have been detained yet.
