AirAsia QZ8510: Singapore identification team returns from Indonesia

SINGAPORE: Eight officers from the Singapore Police Force and two forensic experts from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) returned Sunday after two weeks at Indonesia.

They made up the Singapore Disaster Victim Identification team, who had left for Surabaya on Jan 3, and had assisted the Indonesian authorities in identification efforts over the past two weeks.

The team was received by the Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck and chief forensic medicine of HSA Dr Paul Chui at Changi Airport earlier today.

Commissioner Hoong thanked the officers "for their efforts and personal sacrifices as the deployment was at short notice".

He also offered his condolences to the families of the victims who were onboard the AirAsia plane which crashed in the Java Sea on Dec 28 and hoped that their contributions can help bring closure for some families.
