Another body found in Kallang River

SINGAPORE - The boatman was about to start work at about 8am on Friday when his employer called him and said that a colleague had spotted what looked like a body floating in the Kallang River.

The man, who gave his name to Shin Min Daily News as Mr Ong, set out in his boat to check on the sighting.

He saw something black floating near the riverbank close to Golden Mile Complex.

When he got closer, the 70-year-old realised he was looking at a body.

Mr Ong informed his employer, who called the police.

UNNATURAL DEATH

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said they received a call at 8.13am and sent a fire engine, a Red Rhino and an ambulance to the scene.

SCDF officers pulled the body to shore. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police confirmed that the body was of a 58-year-old man. They have classified the case as unnatural death and are investigating.

This is the third body found in the Kallang River this year.

This month, Lianhe Wanbao reported that the body of a Korean woman clad in a black top and trousers was found in the river.

In January, the body of a man in his 30s was found floating in the river close to where the body was found on Friday.
