Another fire breaks out at police complex
EVACUATION: Staff were evacuated when an equipment trailer at the parking bay at the Police Cantonment Complex caught fire yesterday.

A fire broke out at the Police Cantonment Complex yesterday morning.

It was the second fire to break out at a police complex in two weeks.

Police said yesterday's fire, which happened at 8.20am, involved an equipment trailer in the parking bay.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) put out the fire with a water jet within 10 minutes.

The building was quickly evacuated and employees were allowed in only at about 10am when the all clear was given. No one was injured. The SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.

The New Paper understands it was a small fire.

Passers-by did not notice anything out of the ordinary.

Mr Peter Tan, 57, who lives in nearby Everton Park, said: "There were a lot of people outside, so I thought it was a train disruption because the MRT station is close to the police complex."

Two weeks ago, a fire broke out at Tanglin Police Divisional Headquarters at Kampong Java Road, disrupting its power supply.

The fire on the seventh storey of the building was put out using a water hose within 15 minutes.

It caused a one-week closure of the Kampong Java Neighbourhood Police Centre, which has since reopened.
