AsiaOne mobile and iPad apps win award for most improved offering

SINGAPORE - Just four months after its relaunch, the AsiaOne mobile and iPad apps have clinched a regional award by Marketing Magazine last night (Aug 27).

AsiaOne, which aggregates content from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) publications and other sources, has won a silver for the most improved offering by a media owner at The Spark Awards, which recognises the top media solutions, products and services from media owners and publishers across South Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Other SPH products also had a strong showing at the Spark Awards, such as Fastjobs - a mobile app for Singapore non-executive jobs - taking home the bronze for best app by a media owner. SPH Radio clinched two awards: Gold for having the best commercial team, and Bronze for its Experience Macau campaign under the best media solution (radio) category.

The Spark Awards is judged by a panel of industry experts from companies such as Havas Media Group, ZenithOptimedia, Omnicom Media Group, McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Starcom MediaVest Group, PayPal, and Unilever.

Other winners included major brands such as Clear Channel Singapore, BBC World Singapore, and SMRT Media.

The AsiaOne mobile and iPad app were relaunched in April 2015 to complement the award-winning website.

Ms Karen Lim, Mobile Editor of AsiaOne, said: "We are truly happy and honoured, and would like to share this award with our AsiaOne readers as well, who have been using our mobile apps from day one.

"We hope the revamped app has made the reading experience a bit more interesting and fun with its new features," added Ms Lim.

"This award is a form of motivation for the team and it'll definitely drive us to continue innovating and listening to our readers."

The AsiaOne mobile and iPad app offers users a wide range of news and lifestyle content from SPH publications such as The Straits Times and The Business Times, as well as numerous magazines and top websites in Asia.

A wide range of non-SPH content has been recently added to AsiaOne's selection, from global and regional content partners such as The Wall Street Journal, Nikkei Asian Review, Vulcan Post and more.

Apart from breaking news updates and business developments from Singapore and beyond, the AsiaOne mobile and iPad apps will allow readers to discover more through beautiful photography, commentaries, travel articles, nutritional and fitness advice, and share them through social media tools.

The all-new version of the app features an improved menu for fuss-free navigation, sleek and fresh interface, and better content display. Navigating from story to story is now easier and more seamless than before.

Readers can swipe through the various sections for all the latest stories from a wide range of topics, such as Asia and World news, Technology, Business, Entertainment and more. A new Lifestyle section allows readers to access content from Singapore's No. 1 health site YourHealth, as well as AsiaOne's Women section, which features content relating to fashion, relationship, parenting and shopping.

The newly introduced My Favourites feature allows readers to quickly browse through their preferred list of news stories.

AsiaOne readers can also swipe through galleries and watch videos within articles without having to exit the page to look for a video or photos relevant to the article. For readers who prefer to look at images instead of text, the Photo Galleries section offers a list of photo stories.

Other new services available in the app include stock market updates, zodiac and Chinese horoscope forecasts as well as 4D and Toto gaming results.

The latest version of AsiaOne's mobile and iPad apps are available for free in Apple AppStore and Google Play.
