Assailants slash trader to death

PONTIAN - A businessman was slashed to death after he was attacked by a group of assailants in front of his home in Taman Cahaya here.

Ling Kiang Lew, 71, had just returned home from a business trip in Johor Baru when he was confronted by several men.

The suspects pulled the victim out of the car and started to slash and stab him at 2am yesterday.

Johor acting CID chief Asst Comm Azizan Anan said Ling was slashed several times by the group, believed to be armed with parangs, before succumbing to his injuries at the scene.

He said Ling was stabbed on the chest and suffered serious slash wounds on his face, body and hands.

"The victim owns a registered financial credit loan company which operates in Pontian," he said here yesterday.

ACP Azizan said robbery might have been the motive behind the murder although his personal belongings, including his wallet and mobile phone, were found in the car.

He urged those with information relating to the case to contact the state police hotline at 07-221 2999 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
