Assistant Commissioner of Police possible PAP candidate for Tanjong Pagar

SINGAPORE - Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong could become a candidate for the People's Action Party (PAP) in Tanjong Pagar GRC, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported on Sunday.

Yong was seen with Chan Chun Sing, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, and Lui Tuck Yew, MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC, at a PAP walkabout on Sunday.

CNA said in its report that Sunday is Yong's last day with the police but he has yet to reveal post-retirement plans.

Lui, who recently announced his stepping down, has been MP of the same ward for the past nine years.

Moulmein will be considered part of the Tanjong Pagar GRC when electoral boundary changes kick in.

The five-member Tanjong Pagar GRC team also includes Senior Minister of State for Education and Law Indranee Rajah, surgeon Chia Shi-Lu and newcomer Joan Pereira.
