BATU PAHAT - The assistant driver of an eight-tonne container lorry died while three others were severely injured in a crash involving the heavy vehicle and an express bus along the North-South Expressway near here.

Lorry driver Koh Guan Siong, 39, was believed to have lost control of the vehicle during the 5.20am incident yesterday.

It was said to have slid to the left of the road, hitting the road divider at the southbound direction of the expressway.

The lorry then bounced off the divider and overturned in the middle of the road.

Koh's assistant Muhammad Akid Luqman Zulkifli, 19, was thrown out and killed.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Din Ahmad said the express bus driver, who had five passengers in his vehicle, could not avoid the overturned lorry and crashed into it.

The injured were Koh, a second passenger in the lorry and the bus driver. He added the police were trying to identify the lorry passenger and bus driver.

The bus passengers were unhurt in the incident.
