KUALA LUMPUR - Police have detained a man, in his 20s, in connection with the murder of an Australian lawyer at a pub in Jalan Doraisamy here.
The police said he would help in the investigations into the murder of Bhishma Digpaul, 38, during a pub brawl at around 4am on Friday.
Bhishma, of Mauritian origin and said to hold a dual citizenship, was allegedly attacked by five men who had accused him of accosting a woman at the pub.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said police believed there was an argument followed by a fight before the lawyer was stabbed.
"We have detained the boyfriend (of the woman) to assist in the investigations," he said.
ACP Zainuddin said a bystander rushed Digpaul, who was lying in a pool of blood, to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The victim died some five hours later.
"It's still early in the investigations," said ACP Zainuddin. "We may detain more suspects soon as we are trying to ascertain what actually transpired," he added.
