Authorities tear down secret door and seize 500 porn discs

KOTA KINABALU - The caretaker of an outlet selling CDs and DVDs was dumbfounded when authorities knew about a high-tech storeroom and tore its door down, seizing 500 copies of pornographic discs worth RM12,500 (S$4,860) in it.

The door to the storeroom, made to look exactly like the wall, could only be opened using a remote control. It had to be torn down when the caretaker denied knowledge of its existence.

State director of the Film Censorship Control and Enforcement division Ahmad Hilmi Said said the raid was conducted following a tip-off on the sales of the pornographic DVDs.

"Our personnel went to the shop in one of the shopping complexes to investigate and found a secret storeroom built inside, just behind the cashier counter," he said.

"The door looks just like any other wall in the premises and can only be opened using a remote control."

Ahmad Hilmi said the enforcement officers had no choice but to break open the door when the shopkeeper wouldn't cooperate.

He said the officers also raided two other premises in the vicinity and seized more than 60,000 DVDs that did not carry the B licence.

"The discs are worth more than RM600,000," he added.

Ahmad Hilmi said three people, believed to be the caretakers of the outlets, were arrested to assist investigations.

He said the case would be investigated under the Film Censorship Act 2002 for possession of obscene films and for having films without the B licence.

"This is the second biggest raid this year," Ahmad Hilmi said.

"In the first, more than RM1.4 million worth of DVDs without the B licence were seized in Papar early this year."
