SINGAPORE - The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) kicked off their first adoption roadshow this year at the Big Splash at East Coast Parkway on Saturday.
Held in conjunction with the Cat Welfare Society and nine other animal welfare groups, the Responsible Pet Ownership roadshow is the first in a series of joint adoption drives to be held this year.
Through the "I adopt...Love" adoption drives, AVA said they hope to encourage future pet owners to consider adoption first when getting a pet.
A variety of animals were put up for adoption from the 10 participating welfare groups: Action for Singapore Dogs, Agency for Animal Welfare, Animal Lovers League, Cat Welfare Society, Causes for Animal Singapore, House Rabbit Society (Singapore), Humane Society Singapore, Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Save Our Street Dogs and Voices for Animals.
Besides learning about how to be a responsible pet owner, the event also featured a "Cat Walk" runway show.
AVA chief executive Tan Poh Hong said AVA has been working closely with animal welfare groups to promote responsible pet ownership and rehoming adoptable animals.
"Having collective adoption drives will hopefully attract more potential pet owners.
"We hope that potential pet owners can learn more about how to be a responsible pet owners as they bring home a pet of their own," said Ms Tan.
