Baby, you're the first

The race to be Singapore's first baby of 2014 was won by Averett Sim, a boy born at the stroke of midnight at Thomson Medical Centre yesterday. "We chose the name because it stands for bravery and courage," his father, Dr Adrian Sim, a 35-year-old general practitioner, told The Straits Times. Averett's mother, Ms Jacqueline Tan, 28, said the family had expected her son to be delivered at about 2am, and were surprised that he arrived early.
