Bedok Integrated Transport Hub opens today

SINGAPORE - The new Bedok Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) has begun operations today, providing air-conditioned access for commuters who need to transfer between the bus interchange and MRT station.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a Facebook post that commuters can "grab a drink or shop for groceries" before transferring to their next bus or train ride, as the 1.6-hectare hub is linked to Bedok Mall and other nearby amenities.

The Bedok ITH has 10 boarding and five alighting berths, and it is also equipped with barrier-free facilities such as dedicated boarding points and graduated kerb edges to allow easier boarding of passengers in wheelchairs.

Besides being one of Singapore's largest integrated transport hubs, the Bedok ITH is the first to incorporate energy-saving features, The Straits Times reported.

LTA elaborated on the green features: "Bedok ITH's also been awarded the Building and Construction Authority's Green Mark Platinum Award for various 'green' features such as energy-efficient lighting, and a modern water-cooled air-conditioning system."
