Bid to collect $240 debt ends with borrower absconding

A woman ended up losing her car when she tried to collect a RM600 (S$240) debt from her friend, who had borrowed the money purportedly for his wedding, Guang Ming Daily reported.

The woman, known only as Wu, 21, told the daily that the 24-year-old man, whom she had known for eight years, borrowed the money from her several months ago for his wedding in May.

However, the man failed to return the money.

When Wu pressured him, he promised to return the money but asked her to drive him to Ipoh to get the cash from his relative.

Wu agreed and went with the man in her car on Monday morning.

When Wu went for a toilet break at the rest area in Rawang, the man drove away in her car.

She managed to borrow a handphone from a tourist at the rest area and called her colleagues for help.

A police report has been lodged.
