About 80 officers and a long convoy of their vehicles rushed to a vehicle repair plant after it caught fire apparently after midnight.

Several heavy vehicles were found burning furiously at the heavy vehicles repair plant at Jalan Papan when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it deployed four fire engines, two Red Rhinos, 16 supporting vehicles, one ambulance and two unmanned firefighting machines after it was alerted to the incident at 12.56am this morning.

A statement by SCDF said: "Upon SCDF arrival, the fire was raging and involved several heavy vehicles within a heavy vehicles repair plant. Firefighters used six water jets and one unmanned firefighting machine in the firefighting operation and confined the fire to within the plant."

It took about two hours to extinguish the fire. Firefighters had to use foam to put it out in certain areas of the plant.

The cause of fire is being investigated. There are no reported injuries so far.
