Body of 30-year-old man found in Singapore River

SINGAPORE - A man was taken out from the Singapore River by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) divers and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for SCDF said that they were alerted to the incident which happened in the vicinity of the Swissotel Merchant Court Singapore at about 7.15pm today. SCDF officers arrived at the scene in six minutes and attempted to rescue the man.

The operation took about an hour, and man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics once he was brought back on land.

The man has been identified as a 30-year-old Chinese male.

SCDF said it has handed over the case to the police, who said that investigations are ongoing.
