For four hours, his wife and a colleague scoured the island looking for him after finding his taxi parked at the side of a road.
The doors were locked and the hazard lights on, but he was nowhere to be seen.
They got into the taxi and drove to four hospitals to look for him, but were unsuccessful.
Mr Seng Boey Lim's body was eventually found the next day among the bushes, just 5m from where the taxi was parked.
The Comfort cabby was supposed to hand his taxi over to the night driver, who wanted to be known only as Mr Lee, at 5pm on Monday.
But when Mr Lee went to Mr Seng's flat at Block 612, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, to pick up the vehicle, Mr Seng was not there. After waiting for an hour, Mr Lee got worried as Mr Seng was usually punctual.
"I called him to find out where he was. He was always on time to hand over the cab," Mr Lee told The New Paper in Mandarin.
"He didn't answer his phone even after several calls so I went up to his flat to check."
Mr Lee found out that Mr Seng's wife had also been trying to call him without success.
