Bogus cops held at roadblock

SUBANG JAYA - Police put paid to the crime spree of two bogus cops at a roadblock here.

The two men were detained hours after they had "arrested" and extorted money from a Nigerian student on Monday.

OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said the student, who was doing his Master's degree at a private university, was walking back to his apartment block at around 1am when he was stopped by the two in a car on Jalan SS16/1.

"The two men introduced themselves as policemen and told the student to get into the vehicle.

"However, as they were about to drive off, the student got suspicious and asked them to prove that they were indeed policemen," he said.

He said the men told him that they wanted money from him.

"They stopped the car at a nearby bank for the student to withdraw RM1,000 (S$368) from his account."

However, ACP Yahaya said their car was stopped at a roadblock as they were about to enter the Federal Highway.

"The officers on duty suspected something amiss. It was then that the Nigerian student told them what happened," he said.
