Border breach: Woman charged

A Malaysian woman who allegedly tailgated a car in front of her to breach the Woodlands Checkpoint was charged in court yesterday.

Chong Jing Jing, 34, faces three charges under the Immigration Act for failing to stop her vehicle for immigration clearance, failing to present her passport, and obstructing an immigration officer.

Chong allegedly drove a pink Perodua Axia through immigration clearance at about 5.10am on Tuesday without stopping, and the Arrival Car Zone within the checkpoint was locked down.

She also allegedly refused to switch off the engine and unlock the car doors, so officers had to smash the windows to get her out.

She was later found to have expired travel documents.

The prosecution asked for the suspect to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment.

Chong will appear in court again on July 16.

She faces a jail term of up to six months, and a fine of up to $1,000.
