Boy sent to hospital after being struck by falling tree

An 11-year-old boy suffered a head injury after he was hit by a falling tree at Block 243 Pasir Ris Street 21 last Sunday evening.

He was later sent to KK Women's and Children's Hospital for medical attention.

Online citizen journalism website Stomp reported that some windows of a nearby block were also broken as the tree uprooted and fell.

A Stomp reader who witnessed the incident noted that there was "some upgrading work on the small plot of land with some new plants and smaller trees which could have caused the tree's collapse."

Meanwhile, another Stomp reader, Adeline, observed that the flats from level two to four were affected by the fallen tree.

She speculated that the incident was caused by strong winds and rain.

A fire engine, a red Rhino and an ambulance were deployed to the scene, according to an SCDF spokesman.

He added: "No one was trapped but an 11-year-old boy was conveyed to KK Women's and Children's Hospital after sustaining a head injury."

The injured boy was in a flat on the second floor of the building when the tree fell.
