SINGAPORE - The socio-political website Breakfast Network has announced that it is shutting down.
"We are moving back to blogging and putting our stuff on our Facebook Page," wrote owner and editor Bertha Henson.
The Media Development Authority had asked the site last month to register with it and undertake not to receive foreign funding.
It was told to register the site under the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification, and given until today to comply.
This appeared to have been behind the decision.
"Lawyers and business people who have seen the registration forms describe them as 'onerous','' wrote Ms Henson.
"We asked for a month's extension of the deadline.
"MDA gave us a week."
This was found to be inadequate.
"The demand to register or else - has created a wrinkle in our barely-formed plans to become a sustainable and professional outfit," she wrote.
"Therefore, we have decided to suspend operations until we have re-strategised or at least till the amendments to the Broadcasting Act are unveiled."
