Canadian jailed for having sex with Cambodian minors

PHNOM PENH - A Canadian man was sentenced to seven years inprisonment for buying child prostitute.

The verdict was announced Friday by Duch Sok Sarin, judge at Siem Reap Provincial Court.

Pierrs Deslauruers, the 70-year-old Canadian, was charged in accordance with the article 34 of the Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation. He faced between 7 and 15 years imprisonment, but the judge only sentenced him to 7 years in jail, saying that the suspect was old and the victims did not suffer serious injuries.

Pierrs Deslauruers was arrested on Feb 23, 2014 in Slor Kram commune of Siem Reap province where he committed the crime.

He was brought to a hearing on Nov 14 on charges of having sex with 8 children aged below 15.

According to the verdict, the man was arrested following a complaint filed by male victims who accused him of having sex with under-aged children.
