KOTA KINABALU - Police have arrested four people, including a teenage girl and recovered a four-wheel-drive vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run incident in which a policeman was injured.

The three men aged between 20 and 27, as well as the 15-year-old girl, were arrested after police raided a shophouse at the Bandar Kim Fung commercial centre, about 6km from Sandakan town, on Wednesday.

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Rowell Marong said a police team had earlier spotted the Toyota Land Cruiser parked in the area.

Upon inspection, the team discovered that the vehicle's licence plate number did not tally with the one on the road tax disc.

Break-in tools as well as a number plate matching the number on the road tax disc were found inside the vehicle.

He said police also recovered a laptop computer, five mobile phones, a knife and a toy pistol.

A 37-year-old police corporal sustained a broken rib after he was hit by a Land Cruiser in downtown Kota Kinabalu at about 8.30pm on Dec 20 last year.

The corporalhad tried to stop the two men in the vehicle when he was run down.

The injured policeman was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was reported to be in a stable condition.
