Chan Chun Sing to attend Asean meeting on social welfare issues

SINGAPORE - Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing, will be attending the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) on September 6 in Siem Reap.

Ministers from the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea will join the officials from the ASEAN Member States for the 4th AMMSWD +3 on September 7.

The theme for the 8th AMMSWD is "Social Development For All".

MSF said in a statement that Singapore will share efforts in developing social policies and programmes to meet emerging needs and enhancing our social service delivery for vulnerable groups, including children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

The meeting will also consider and adopt the draft ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Social Protection, and the draft Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Violence Against Children in ASEAN. These Declarations signal the commitment of the ASEAN Member States in strengthening social protection for all, and in eliminating violence against women and children.

Mr Chan Chun Sing will be accompanied by ministry officials.

First held in 1979, the AMMSWD and AMMSWD +3 are convened every three years to discuss social welfare and development issues in the ASEAN region.
