Chinese man pleads guilty to pimping teenage here: Beast, Snake, Loser

SINGAPORE - Sex with a hundred men on 150 occasions in 15 days. This was the ordeal forced upon a 17-year-old Chinese girl by her pimp during her stint as a streetwalker in Geylang.

Chinese national Tang Huisheng, 37, who had brought the minor here from China, kept all her earnings, which amounted to about $9,000.

And when she was arrested on June 1 on suspicion of being underage, Tang was standing next to her.

He managed to slip away and, on the same night, began a four-day gambling spree at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino, where he lost $18,300.

If he thought his luck had deserted him, worse was in store. Before he could leave on a flight for China the next day, the law caught up with him. Facing seven charges under the Women's Charter, he claimed trial.

But when his trial started yesterday, Tang, who was unrepresented, decided, in a surprise move, to plead guilty.

But in a surprise move, he admitted to four charges: bringing the minor here for prostitution, living off her immoral earnings, harbouring her, and aiding a client to have paid sex with the girl for $100.

Two other charges will be taken into consideration during sentencing while the seventh charge was withdrawn.

Fifteen of the 24 men so far charged with having paid sex with the underage prostitute have pleaded guilty, with 13 jailed between 11 and 12 weeks.

The court heard yesterday of how Tang had brought the girl here to be a prostitute after his sister had tricked her into going to him in Zhuhai, China.

In the clutches of this beast, she was drugged, raped repeatedly and confined in a room when she refused to submit to his demands to sell her body.

When she was injured in a five-storey fall while trying to escape, he and his sister bashed her instead of seeking treatment for her.

She finally gave in when Tang threatened to harm her mother. His sister threatened to splash acid on the girl if she did not listen to them or tried to run away again.

On May 16, Tang and the girl arrived from Guangzhou on a China Southern Airlines flight.

Forced girl to walk streets

Two days later, Tang, who was working with a local pimp known as Pang Pang, forced the minor to walk the streets of Geylang to prostitute herself while he stood nearby.

Between May 18 and June 1, she serviced about 100 customers on about 150 occasions, receiving about $60 each time.

He used her earnings to pay the rent for their lodgings and to gamble at the casino.

The court also heard how Tang refused to let the girl reject customers.

One alleged client was a Singaporean, Nordin Mohamed Noor, 49, who had approached the girl on May 24. She rejected him, walked away and secured another client.

Nordin later saw Tang, who was waiting for the girl at a coffee shop. 

He approached him and they agreed on a $100 fee for her services. When she told Tang she had rejected Nordin earlier, he insisted that she provide the service as a deal had been struck. She then had sex with Nordin in a lodging house at Lorong 21.

When she was arrested on June 1 by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department's streetwalk task force, Tang showed what a slippery snake he was by sneaking away.

But his freedom was short-lived. 

Realising he couldn't stay on in Singapore, Tang called China Southern Airlines to bring forward his flight to China from June 10 to June 5. But he was arrested before he could flee the country.

Yesterday, in court, he was seen frowning and arguing with the court interpreter as she read out the facts of the case to him.

On at least three instances, he disputed what the interpreter was reading out, shaking his head, looking away and slouching forward while seated in the dock.

It looked as if he was ready to challenge the facts of the case.

But after the four charges that were proceeded with were read out, Tang surprised everyone by pleading guilty.

Hesitated

Asked by District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan if the prosecution's statement of facts was accurate, Tang hesitated.

Pressed at least twice by the interpreter for an answer, he finally replied in a low voice: "Yes."

Deputy public prosecutors Stella Tan Wei Ling and Elizabeth Chua will give their submission on sentencing on Oct 2.

Tang is in custody as he could not post bail, which was doubled to $30,000 after his conviction.
