KEPONG: A man was found dead with his face bashed in, at a stairwell of a shopping mall here, Tuesday morning.

Police said a janitor found the body, which was lying in a pool of blood on the mall's fifth floor stairwell, near a snooker and karaoke centre, at about 8.45am.

The victim, 53-year-old Foo Yong Eng, was found lying on his back, fully clothed, and his blood splattered face full of bumps and bruises.

Green raffia string was found around his hands and legs, though he did not appear to be tied up.

Foo had reportedly parked his Proton Gen-2 at the mall at about 6am Tuesday and was seen in closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage walking around with an unidentified woman.

Half an hour later, CCTV cameras near the fifth floor elevators recorded six men hauling the victim into the stairwell.

"There may have been a fight but it was not caught on camera. The victim had no personal items missing or stolen and there were no stab wounds on his body. He may have been beaten to death," said Sentul deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sukri Kaman.

He said Foo may have been bludgeoned to death by fists and kicks to his head.

Police, he said, managed to obtain clear images of the six men who were last seen with Foo when he was alive and were now working on identifying and tracking them down.

Foo's body was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a postmortem.

The case has been classified as murder.
