A Christmas tree located outside Topshop at Knightsbridge mall along Orchard Road caught fire on Wednesday, Dec 2.
Bank analyst Kai Xian, 27, told AsiaOne in a phone interview that he was near the scene and witnessed the incident just as it began at about 9pm.
"I had just stepped out of Takashimaya department store when I saw sparks of flames from a distance," he said.
"Luckily the tree was not connected to anything else because there was no sign of security to properly handle the situation."

However, he did see a few security guards from Knightsbridge mall trying to put out the fire with small fire extinguishers.
He also said he witnessed the climax of the incident, which was when the entire tree was engulfed in flames.
That was when he stopped filming the incident from outside Mandarin Gallery.
"I stopped because I could feel the heat from the fire already," Kai Xian added.
"There were many others around who were filming the incident."
He said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel only arrived about five minutes after the tree "burned down to ashes".
He had already walked away from the scene and had reached Somerset 313 when he heard the SCDF siren.
According to online reports, no one was injured in the incident.
