'Chunks' fall off Orchard Towers

SINGAPORE- Parts of a second-storey parapet at Orchard Towers broke off and crashed onto the road below yesterday morning.

Photos of large chunks of rubble strewn on the road appeared on citizen journalism website Stomp.

"Is Orchard Towers falling apart? I walked past (the building) this morning and was greeted by the sight of blocks of concrete," the contributor wrote.

"A few minutes earlier and we might have cushioned the concrete's fall.

"Scary."

The Straits Times identified the contributor as IT director Svein Grande, who was walking to his home behind Orchard Towers.

When contacted, police confirmed the incident and said they received a call at 10.03am, seeking assistance at a building on Orchard Road, it reported.
