Coffeeshop fire leads to road closure

A fire broke out at Good Good's Eating House, a coffee shop at 5, Guillemard Road yesterday evening.

No injuries were reported and the flames were put out by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) by about 5.20pm, reported The Straits Times online.

SCDF said the fire was extinguished by two water jets within 15 minutes of their arrival at about 5pm. They said the occupants had evacuated on their own.

Mr Zul Hamrin, 54, who sells Malay food in the next building, told The Straits Times that the SCDF was called after an attempt to put out the fire with an extinguisher had failed.

"We thought we had put out most of the fire, but it suddenly became bigger... It was very hot," he said.

He said there had been 20 to 30 patrons eating there at the time.

The fire led to the road closure of Geylang Lorong 8 for about an hour from 5.30pm.
