Colourful countdown

Colourful countdown

At the stroke of midnight, 18,000 partygoers at Siloso Beach Party (SBP) 2013 greeted 2014 as waves of PaintGlow UV paint rained down on them, leaving behind a neon-coloured human canvas.

They danced at Asia's largest beach countdown party as spectacular fireworks erupted in the sky.

It was a memorable countdown for both DJs and their audience.

Over four hours, gallons of neon paint were mixed and sprayed across the Main Arena and Foam Pool, drenching party-goers who had gamely turned up in their white T-shirts to take home a piece of artwork to remember their countdown to 2014.

Said DJ Shy, a US-based headlining DJ for SBP for the seventh year running: "This year's spectacular colour splashes were a visual treat as I brought the audience through my mixes and mashes.

"I don't know of any other countdown party like this. Siloso Beach Party just gets bigger each year!"

COLOUR CONCEPT

Other guest DJs, such as DJ K-Sly (US) and DJ Charlotte (Singapore), are also no strangers to the party, lured by the growing crowds and fresh party concepts every year.

DJ K-Sly, who was back at SBP for her third year, told The New Paper: "The crowd here is so crazy! It's all very fun and exciting, especially with this year's colour concept. Females, like me, like fun and bright colours and pink and yellow!"

Partygoers made full use of their SBP tickets, starting New Year's Eve lounging at their preferred beach bars or indulging in platters of seaside barbecued grill, and gearing up for a night of sand-shuffling and dancing along Siloso Beach.

Five party zones - C Side (Coastes, Bikini Bar & Sandbar), Azzura Beach Club, Mambo, Wave House Sentosa, and the Main Arena - catered to different tastes.

Women had a treat at an exclusive women-only area called No Man's Land.

Mandy Ho, 18, who was there with four friends, said that they had recently graduated from junior college and this was their first party. She said: "It's like paradise because there are no boys! It's so nice to just chill out here with a group of friends."

Outside No Man's Land was Mr Sjaiful Bahri and his five friends, who were laughing and dancing to the pumping music.

Mr Sjaiful, 21, who is currently doing his national service, danced with his friends for five hours.

He said: "I feel high like the sky here! My favourite DJ is DJ Shy. Her music is so good."

Another group of seven were seen getting spray-on tattoos.

Said student Perlin Ng, 21: "There are so many people here, it is crazy. We had so much fun dancing at the Main Arena!"
